I am pleased to place before the readers a thoroughly revised, enlarged and updated 8^th edition of this widely read book on General Knowledge of Punjab. The inspiration for this book arose from the need and desire to enlighten and instill a greater appreciation in society at large about Punjab and to provide a standard text cum reference book for the candidates appearing for Punjab Civil Service (PCS) and other competitive examinations.

With the expansion of weightage of General Knowledge of Punjab in competitive examinations, the need for comprehensive text on this subject is being increasingly felt. This book is an effort in that direction, which would enable the readers to acquire a complete and detailed understanding of the subject. An effort has been made to make the book relevant, authentic and up-to-date.

To give easy and quick understanding of the extremely wide subject – matter of General Knowledge of Punjab, this book has been divided into parts encompassing the major areas of the subject and then further sub-divided into a range of topics. I have used tables, boxes and parenthesis to make the presentation more clear.

The Question Bank at the end of the book is designed to help the candidates to test their understanding of the subject from the examination point of view. The questions are framed to make an assessment of their preparation for the exam as well as to manage their time judiciously and productively.

It is a matter of immense satisfaction that the previous editions of the book have received an overwhelming response from the readers. I am confident that the readers would continue to respond their faith in this edition as well.
